Extracts from "Raslo Layton - Rock Poet"

THE INTRODUCTION READS…

"Someone once said to me "I don't normally like poetry but I like yours.".

Cruelly I turned her into a poem; however it illustrated one of the tragedies of poetry, and a sad but common perception of poetry.

Poetry shouldn't be exclusive to academia, nor should you have to pore over each piece like it was some obscure language. Poetry should be - at one level at least - immediately accessible to everyone, and it should have a relevance. Rock and roll of the written word. Rock poetry."

THE FIRST POEM READS…

Portrait of an aetheist on a very tall building

See
can he stand
right on the edge
the very, very edge
and say "God’s a load of bollocks"

well he did
he stood
right on the edge
the very, very edge
and said - loudly -
"God’s a load of bollocks!"

Christ, I thought
that guy’s got faith.
